Teaching Certificate for Student Tutors
Learn to Teach
Are you studying at Heidelberg University and leading a tutorial next semester?
In addition to subject-specific skills, teaching tutorials also requires communication and teaching skills. Our modular training program, which you can complete with a teaching certificate for tutors, will support you in this. You will learn in a practical way how to design and conduct your tutorial according to teaching principles. You will also expand your skills in teaching and moderating groups.
In consultation with your department, you can acquire interdisciplinary skills worth up to 2 ECTS credits for your own studies.
Currently, the programme is only offered in German.
Structure
The program comprises 90 work units (AE), which are completed in video conference sessions or, if necessary, through face-to-face sessions and independent study (e-learning).
It is divided into three modules:
Module I - Didactics and Planning (30 AE):
- Teaching the essential didactic principles for sustainable learning.
- Support in developing the course concept.
Module II - Preparation and Implementation of the Tutorial (30 AE):
- Organizational and content preparation.
- Implementation of the tutorial.
Module III - Reflection and counseling (30 AE):
- Supports the systematic reflection of one's own learning process as a tutor
- Support through practical coaching and collegial practical counseling
- A written report summarizes the training program and the learning objectives
Module I - Didactics and Planning
The basic training course lasts five days and is either conducted entirely online or in a blended learning format, alternating between online and face-to-face sessions. In the e-learning module on Moodle, you will work independently in teams to develop the didactic basics. In addition, we will accompany you in video conference sessions (heiCONF) or face-to-face sessions. You will develop a (first) concept for your tutorial. Challenging situations in a tutorial will also be discussed so that you are prepared for all eventualities.
Module II - Preparation and Implementation of the Tutorial
Now complete your tutorial! Once you have completed the tutorial, please have it certified by the coordinators for the subject.
Module III - Reflection and counseling
In collegial observation, you and a tandem partner have the opportunity to visit each other's tutorials. This allows you to receive feedback and tips on how to lead your tutorial.
In supervision, you can raise any concerns or questions that arise during your tutorial. We offer practical coaching either online or in person. You will receive an invitation with the relevant information a few days before the event begins. Please register at least 14 days before the start of the practical coaching session!
The final report serves to review your development as a tutor over the course of your tutoring activities.
