Danish

Velkommen to the Danish Section Website!

Danish is the official language of the Kingdom of Denmark and is spoken by about 6 million people—primarily in Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and parts of northern Germany (Schleswig). As a North Germanic language, Danish is closely related to Swedish and Norwegian—these three languages are highly mutually intelligible.

The Danish language is characterized by relatively simple grammar but a complex pronunciation, which presents both a challenge and a fascination for learners. Learning Danish provides direct access to Danish culture, literature, and society and is especially relevant for study, work, or exchange stays in Scandinavia.
