Materials for Instructors Artificial Intelligence In Teaching And Learning

Build independent, online teaching skills to foster engaging and inclusive instruction.

AI-Supported Teaching

The introductory section explores the use of AI in everyday life, provides an overview of generative AI development, and highlights key challenges related to its use. Participants will learn to identify AI applications, understand the basics of machine learning, and recognize the implications and limitations of AI in educational contexts.

The second section focuses on how instructors can leverage AI to enhance teaching quality, while addressing challenges that may arise when integrating AI into their practice. The final section covers effective prompting with ChatGPT, including tips for creating and refining complex prompts and a "meta-prompt" to optimize prompt design.

We recommend completing the sections in sequence, but you are welcome to focus on those most relevant to your interests. All course materials and suggested videos can be directly applied to your own teaching practice.

AI-Supported Academic Writing

AI tools can help make the writing process more efficient. A brief introduction to a writing process model provides guidance by outlining the stages of writing and showing how tools like ChatGPT can be meaningfully integrated at each phase. While these tools can support writing in various stages, they require well-structured instructions, or prompts, to produce useful results.

Using large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT in academic contexts presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly regarding content accuracy and responsible use. The goal is not to rely solely on AI for generating text, but to integrate it thoughtfully into the writing process, enhancing individual strengths and supporting the development of academic writing skills.
