Structure and Transparency

Heidelberg University successfully fulfills its mission under the State Higher Education Act to transfer results from research and development into practice through knowledge transfer, there by promoting societal progress. In this spirit, on May 12, 2020, the Senate of Heidelberg University adopted the Framework Regulations for Certificate Programs in Scientific Continuing Education at Heidelberg University - abbreviated as heiGRADE Framework Regulations (published in the Rector’s Bulletin No. 17/2020 of October 28, 2020). The heiGRADE concept thus makes a transparent contribution to lifelong learning.

Vision and Offer

With the heiGRADE Framework Regulations, the institutes and academic institutions of the University are provided with an instrument that supports and guides them in establishing continuing education programs. Key elements of the framework include:

  • the academic and didactic design in standardised module descriptions,
  • the classification of programs at a defined continuing education level, depending on scope and objectives,
  • standardised quality assurance measures, and
  • certification based on examinations.

Template and Procedure

For the design of programs, a Model Implementation Regulation for Certificate Programs in Scientific Continuing Education at Heidelberg University – abbreviated as heiGRADE Implementation Regulation - has been developed. Where necessary, this can be adapted to specific requirements (published in the Rector’s Bulletin No. 17/2020 of October 28, 2020).
