Bosnian | Croatian | Serbian

Dobrodošao to the Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian Section Website!

Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian are three standard varieties of a South Slavic language spoken by over 18 million native speakers—primarily in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. The language is also widely spoken in parts of Kosovo and within diaspora communities in countries such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Despite some differences in vocabulary, pronunciation, and writing systems (Croatian uses the Latin alphabet, while Serbian uses both Latin and Cyrillic), the varieties are mutually intelligible. Knowledge of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian provides access to a wide range of cultural expressions—including literature, film, music, and media—as well as to a region marked by complex history and dynamic social change.
